Transfer Guide Overview
Transfer Guides, formerly known as Baccalaureate Degree Plans (BDPs), have been developed in partnership with the UNC System to help NC Community College System (NCCCS) students have more seamless transfer experiences. These guides are for students pursuing an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) at a NCCCS institution.
Using Transfer Guides
To create an effective transfer plan using the Transfer Guides, students should:
- Work with an academic advisor at the community college and connect with the university contact listed on each Transfer Guide as questions arise.
- Ensure they are using the most up-to-date Transfer Guide by reviewing the academic year and revision date published on each Transfer Guide (Transfer Guides are updated annually.)
Note: Some information on the Transfer Guides may not apply to students transferring prior to associate degree completion and/or dual-enrolled high school students. These students are encouraged to speak with their community college advisor and intended university for more information and guidance on NCCCS course selection.
Transfer Guide Details
Each Transfer Guide provides important transfer information including admissions requirements, NCCCS course recommendations, university equivalency information, and remaining university coursework needed upon transferring.
Course recommendations are labeled as one of the following:
- General Education: Course meets a General Education requirement at the university.
- Required Course: Critical course or prerequisite that is required for major/university curriculum and should be taken at community college prior to transferring. If not taken prior to transferring, it could impact student’s admission directly into major, access to other major courses at the university, and/or the time needed to complete the bachelor’s degree.
- Required for Admission to University: Transfer admissions requirement for the university (not major).
- Suggested Course: Course could fulfill a major/university requirement and is a good option if available at CC but does not need to be taken prior to transferring. Course can be taken upon transferring without impact on the bachelor’s degree completion timeline.
- Elective: Transfers as elective credit or applies toward the elective portion of the bachelor’s degree at university.
- General Transfer Credit: Transferable course awarding credit but does not fulfill any requirements within a bachelor’s degree program.
Transfer Guides by ECU Major and Concentration
Majors with concentrations have a separate transfer guide for each concentration option. Additional transfer options like the Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) or Associate in Applied Science (AAS), if available, are linked under applicable majors.
